The French Minister of Finance Bruno Le Maire has proposed to create the EU's digital currency.

The French Minister of Finance Bruno Le Maire has proposed to create the EU's digital currency. TASS reported that he declared this at an informal meeting of EU Ministers of Economy and Finance in Helsinki.

According to Le Maire, European countries should learn the better ways to reduce the cost of international transactions and increase their speed both inside and outside the EU.

"I have submitted for discussion to the Eurogroup a proposal for the creation of a state digital currency, and it will be considered in October at the next IMF meeting in Washington,” - Le Maire said.

Yesterday, the head of the Ministry of Finance emphasized that the EU would ban the development of the digital currency Libra from Facebook because of system risks and threats to the monetary sovereignty of states.

Nevertheless, the CEO of Libra Association Bertrand Perez stated that the launch of Libra would take place in the second half of 2020, and all problems with regulators will be resolved.

It should be mentioned, that yesterday Le Maire also reported that in France, the cryptocurrency transactions would be exempted from taxes.
