The Ropsten test network split into two chains after activating the Istanbul update.

The Ropsten test network split into two chains after activating the Istanbul update.

Ethereum Foundation community manager Hudson Jameson said the hard fork was earlier than expected. Many miners have not yet updated the software. The reason for the early activation was an unusually fast block confirmation.

"Right now, we’re trying to run some miners to get Ropsten on the correct Istanbul chain," Hudson concluded.

Some developers have criticized the approach to upgrades.

"End-users need a different test network. We built serious services on top of Ropsten. They are now stuck to the solution of this problem."

It should be reminded that the community faced a similar situation after the activation of the hard fork Constantinople in October 2018 on Ropsten.

Some developers believe that Istanbul will disrupt 680 smart contracts for managing decentralized applications, including Aragon and Kyber Network.
