The DPRK is in the early stages of creating its own digital currency, Vice News reported, citing a local official. With its help, the government plans to circumvent sanctions.

According to the organizer of cryptocurrency conferences in the DPRK, Alejandro Cao de Benos, the still unnamed coin 'will be similar to bitcoin.'

At this stage, North Korea is studying the goods to secure the token, but does not intend to tie it to the national currency.
