Special Commissioner of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Hester Pierce believes that cryptocurrencies in the future may become “Internet money,” reports Cointelegraph.

Special Commissioner of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Hester Pierce believes that cryptocurrencies in the future may become “Internet money,” reports Cointelegraph.

Pierce spoke about her views on digital assets and regulation at the DACOM Summit in New York. She said it viewed digital assets as a 'transaction al-transaction mechanism' whose important function was to be a mean of hoarding.

"I think as technology changes, we're going to see them become more and more internet money," Pearce added.

The SEC Commissioner agreed with the view that the US is losing competitiveness by delaying the development of a legal framework for innovation. In her opinion, the regulator needs a push from Congress. However, Pierce believes that the Commission's approach to regulating cryptocurrencies should be “slightly less paternalistic.”

She also said that the SEC needs to think about how to apply enforcement methods to the cryptocurrency industry. Pierce noted that not only fraudsters, but also organizers of unregistered tokens are on the regulator's radar.

Recall that according to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, the internet's native currency could be bitcoin.
